A&S Dean Search Committee

Faculty, staff and students are represented on the panel

A search committee has been established to find the next dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, says Jamshed Bharucha, provost and senior vice president.

Robert Sternberg announced in December that he would step down as dean at the end of his term in June to spend more time on his psychology research and his work with professional associations.

“This is a strong and diverse committee that I am confident will represent the institution well and exercise good judgment in helping to identify the next dean,” says Bharucha.

The committee, which Bharucha will chair, comprises:

  • Nancy Bauer, associate professor of philosophy
  • Brigette Bryant, senior director of development for Arts and Sciences
  • Lee Coffin, dean of undergraduate admissions and enrollment management
  • Jason Heustis, G11, president of the Graduate Student Council for Arts, Sciences & Engineering
  • Peniel Joseph, professor of history
  • David Kaplan, the Stern Family Professor of Engineering, professor and chair of biomedical engineering and director of the Bioengineering and Biotechnology Center
  • Misha Kilmer, professor of mathematics and adjunct professor of computer science
  • Tianyin Luo, A12, representing the student senate
  • Leah McIntosh, executive administrative dean of the School of Arts and Sciences
  • Jonathan Wilson, the Fletcher Professor of Rhetoric and Debate and director of the Center for the Humanities at Tufts

Bharucha says the committee welcomes nominations and applications for the position. Nominations should be emailed to deansearchAS@tufts.edu. “Please also feel free to send to this email address thoughts about the direction of the school and qualities you think we should seek in the next dean,” Bharucha wrote in an email to the Tufts community.
