Former associate chaplain dies Father Michael Joseph Hunt, the former director of the Catholic Center at Tufts, died on November 6 after a long struggle with multiple myeloma. He was 64. His ministry spanned 39 years, during which he served as a Catholic chaplain at Tufts, Boston University, the University of California at Berkeley and Wayne State University. Hunt was Tufts’ associate Catholic chaplain and director of the Catholic Center from 1984 to 1997. He was also a lecturer in the religion department. “Father Michael served the Catholic community and the Tufts University family as a whole in an outstanding manner,” said the Rev. David O’Leary, university chaplain. “As a member of the Paulist Society of Priests and Brothers, he also literally wrote the manual for campus ministry.” He authored or collaborated on three books: The Gospel on Campus, Faith on Campus: Ministry at Non-Catholic Universities and A Handbook of Campus Ministry Programs and Resources. Hunt was also an editor for the Paulist Press and wrote two other books, College Catholics: A New Counter-Culture and When Your Kids Go to College. |
