June Calendar of Events

June 1
University Gallery Tufts’ third annual summer juried exhibition showcases the arts community in its two host cities, Medford and Somerville. The exhibition focuses in depth on the work of 11 artists and offers presentations of two-dimensional works in various mediums and several site-specific installations. Opening reception: Thursday, June 1, 5:30-8:30 p.m., featuring music by the Ken Field Trio. Aidekman Arts Center, University Gallery, through July 30. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Summer gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call the gallery at 617-627-3518 or go to http://www.ase.tufts.edu/gallery.

University Gallery Cristi Rinklin’s “Nuvolomondo” is a site-specific installation. The artist has conceived a large-scale composition derived from her painting in which images are printed digitally on Duraclear panels and then mounted into the windows on the ground level of the Remis Sculpture Court. In addition, the walls throughout the lower level of the court are embellished with ornate stenciled vinyl and wall painting. Inspired by her recent visiting artist and scholar residency at the American Academy in Rome, Rinklin’s “cloud-world” installation is a “techno-ornate” burst of color and form. It is a contemporary interpretation of Baroque ornament and architectural details, including stained glass panels and elaborate wall treatments. Aidekman Arts Center, Remis Sculpture Court, through July 30. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Summer gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call the gallery at 617-627-3518 or go to http://www.ase.tufts.edu/gallery.
