Medford students get a taste of the symphony

More than 1,000 Medford elementary school students were invited to the Aidekman Arts Center on January 9 for two concerts by the Tufts Symphony Orchestra (TSO).

Both concerts featured a variety of music, including John Williams’ theme from the movie “Star Wars” and Aaron Copland’s “Hoedown.”

The idea for the concerts arose from a conversation with a parent of an elementary school student who thought it would be beneficial for local students to be exposed to orchestra music, said Malka Yaacobi, TSO conductor.

The next day, the TSO left for its annual trip abroad, this time for Costa Rica, where the student musicians gave three performances.
