Tufts community reaches out to hurricane victims More than 100 Tufts students and alumni spent a week of their winter break in the Mississippi Gulf region, clearing debris, distributing supplies and starting the rebuilding process in three rural towns devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Alexandra Kramer, A06, helped organize the “volunteer vacation” through the Leonard Carmichael Society, Tufts’ student-run volunteer organization. “I was so lucky that I didn’t have to experience something like that, but at the same time, it made me realize that I really wanted to do something,” she said. They worked in Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis and Waveland, tiny towns that have received little media attention or aid. |
