Former provost's portrait installed in library

The image of Sol Gittleman, already familiar to several generations of Tufts students, has gained a permanent place in the university landscape. A portrait of Gittleman, the Alice and Nathan Gantcher University Professor and former provost, was installed in the lobby of the Tisch Library on October 23. The work was created by artist Louis Gippetti, who teaches portrait drawing and painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Gittleman, who just completed a book about Tufts' most recent history, has been at the university since 1964 and served as provost from 1981 to 2002. He is known on campus for his great enthusiasm for teaching and for his love of baseball.
