TILR Winter Session The Tufts Institute for Learning in Retirement offers its winter session program on the Italian Renaissance on January 21 and five subsequent Mondays through February 24. Using video-conferencing, registered study group members will interact from two different locations—Brookhaven in Lexington, Mass., and Tufts. In the morning, Rose Blake, emerita professor, will teach "The Poetry of Michelangelo." In the afternoon class, Emerita Prof. Emiliana P. Noether will discuss the politics of Renaissance Italy, the glorification of the classical world, humanism and its view of life and the individual in the cosmos and the cluster of geniuses in the arts. A reading list will be provided. The sessions on the last two Mondays will focus on Italian opera; Prof. Darby Tench of the University of New Hampshire will lead the discussions and vocal illustrations.
