Preventing violence

Fighting violence against women

Tufts has received a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to establish programs aimed at fighting violence against women on campus.

In announcing the grant on November 28, U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., said, "Prevention should be our first line of defense. I commend Tufts University for its leadership on this important issue."

The grant will help the university expand educational programs on domestic violence to minority groups, international students and athletes. Tufts also will further develop its policies and services for victims of sexual assault, rape and dating violence; enhance training services for campus police officers and establish a new judicial system to address incidents of violence against women.
