2002 > April Bicentennial fete Celebrating Victor Hugo The French section of the department of Romance languages hosted 50 high school students at a daylong event March 8 to celebrate Victor Hugo's bicentennial. Considered the most important of the French Romantic writers, Hugo, author of Les Misˇrables and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, was born in Besan¨on 1802.
Teachers from Somerville High and West Roxbury High each brought 25 students to Tufts, according to Eglal Henein, professor of French, who organized the event. The high school students and their Tufts hosts enjoyed a French meal and shared Hugo's birthday cake before watching a French movie.
