Bhaskar Chakravorti has been named the Fletcher School’s new senior associate dean of international business and finance, executive director of the International Business Center (IBC), executive director of the Center for Emerging Market Enterprises and professor of the practice in international business.

Chakravorti has more than 20 years of academic and industry experience in innovation, entrepreneurship management and new venture formation in global businesses. Previously, he was a partner at McKinsey & Company, based in the international management consulting firm’s Boston office.

At McKinsey, he was a leader of its innovation and global forces practices. As a member of the firm’s Knowledge Services Committee, he also oversaw the firm’s 1,200-member knowledge centers in North America, the European Union and Asia. He is a distinguished scholar at MIT’s Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship and was on the faculty of the Harvard Business School, where he taught entrepreneurship and innovation and served as a faculty associate at the Harvard University Center for the Environment.

Chakravorti has consulted for more than 30 Fortune 500 company boards, CEOs and senior management teams and has worked with organizations across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa. He is the author of The Slow Pace of Fast Change: Bringing Innovations to Market in a Connected World (Harvard Business Press, 2003), and has published more than 40 articles and academic papers and more than a dozen Harvard Business School case studies of innovative companies.

“I feel privileged to join my new colleagues at the Fletcher School,” says Chakravorti. “In today’s world, the front page and the business page have merged to form the new business and policy paradigm. International business and foreign policy leaders must get on this single ‘page’ and be fluent in the issues and underlying drivers. This new reality is at the core of the pioneering framework underpinning Fletcher’s International Business Center (IBC). It provides students, employers and alumni with both the mindset and the toolset necessary to participate in and shape the emerging global business environment.”

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Bhaskar to his new role here at the Fletcher School,” says Dean Stephen W. Bosworth. “His research in the field of innovation—specifically the integration of rational business with the complex nuance of international relations—is at the core of our international business offering. I am extremely confident in his ability to lead the IBC and Fletcher forward in the years to come.”
